Fashion Tips How To Ensure Your Clothes Fit Properly Characteroffashion

As an ex fashion student, I love the chance to do a fashion blog post on , and especially when it involves a celebrity! I have some fond memories of styling a few celebrities when I got my first fashion job too – I worked at Kangol and our most famous celebrity client was the actor Samuel L Jackson!

There were celebrities that I loved (Sam – he was always so pleasant to everyone!) and celebrities that I didn’t (no names!!) but one celebrity that I would never have thought about when talking about ‘fashion’ is former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson! My eyes have not deceived me though, this video from men’s fashion retailer Chums menswear features Jeremy getting a red carpet makeover!

The man in your life can have a celebrity makeover himself by following these tips. The pointers in the video are mainly for a smart suited appearance, but in case your bloke doesn’t wear a suit, I have created some notes to help ensure that your clothes fit properly!

Too tight?

  • A good way to check if your jacket is too tight is to give someone a hug. If it pulls across the back or is too constricting in the arms, then you will need to go up a size.
  • Your trousers are too snug if you cannot get two fingers into the fastened waistband.

    • Too loose?

  • Clothing that is too big is not very smart either – it can make you look larger than you really are. If you have lost weight recently, go shopping and try on a smaller size to get a more polished silhouette.

    • Wrong size?

  • If your shirt or top refuses to remain tucked in then this is a sign that you need a longer top. There are retailers out there who specialise in longer torso garments, and from experience – if you are a lady who wants a longer line vest or T shirt than average then try the maternity ranges! Even if you don’t have a ‘bump’, these styles are designed longer, so your normal size in a maternity range will give the longer appearance you are looking for.

    • Maintenance:

  • Check your clothes regularly for loose buttons that will need fixing or for fraying threads to catch issues before they become bigger problems.
  • When your clothes come faded through repeated washing, don’t dispose of them! Try a washing machine dye to bring your favourite T shirt back to life!
