How To Make A Jewellery Holder

Here’s how to make a high end jewellery holder for mother on Mother’s Day! It is easy when you know how and pretty low cost too, making it an ideal craft project for you to make for your mother or for your kids to make for you with a little help!

I love to watch those American reality TV shows like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (because they are nothing like my own UK based reality!) But I like to watch their glamorous lifestyles and especially their clothes! They all seem to have beautiful dressing rooms and I have noticed that they have these gorgeous high end jewellery holders in a variety of sizes to keep all their necklaces and bracelets neat and tangle free.

It is really frustrating to go to your jewellery only to find it in a tangled mess and I like to stay organised, so I decided to create my own jewellery holder, and here’s how I did it!

First I went to B&M for supplies. They have loads of home items at a really low cost so I knew I could find a variety of candlestick bases there.

The candle stick base I chose was just £4.99 for a really large one which was perfect as I intended to use the jewellery holder for necklaces, but you can choose a shorter base if you are going to use the holder for bracelets and watches. I also found the super glue at B&M too, but I had to go elsewhere for a range of sticky backed plastic.

In Wilko I found rolls of vinyl and this lovely marbled effect was perfect to go with the neutral base of my candlestick.

Here are the materials I used for an easy shopping list:

  • A candlestick base
  • 200cm ribbon
  • 2 kitchen roll tubes
  • 2 old magazines
  • Strong glue
  • Sticky backed plastic
  • (optional) an artificial flower to decorate
  • (optional) a craft bird or other animal to decorate

Method:

  • First, find a suitable candlestick base. You can find one in a charity shop if you enjoy the hunting, or for ease – somewhere like B&M or Wilko’s that I visited sell this sort of thing. It can be wood, glass or metal – the key is to buy the right sort of glue depending on the materials
  • Save two kitchen roll tubes when you finish your roll. If you are doing a smaller bracelet holder, you could use an empty toilet roll tube on a smaller base too.
  • Take an old magazine, cut to size if necessary then roll and insert into the kitchen roll tube. The magazine helps the tube to stay sturdy and strong for the jewellery to hang on it.
  • Then, measure the amount of vinyl you need to wrap round the tube. Apply this to your roll.
  • Use the end of your tube as a guide and draw around the vinyl to create circles that will become the ends of your rolls
  • Once you have two completed and covered rolls, take 200cm ribbon, and stick to the candle holder at the 50cm mark
  • Then stick each roll onto the candle holder and press firmly until the glue dries.
  • Once the glue dries, tie the ribbon over the join and either leave it as that with a nice bow or if you want to embellish the jewellery stand further, apply one or two artificial flowers to the stand and I have attached a plastic bird too!

There you have it! This craft project makes an ideal gift for Mother’s Day or for any fashion loving woman who likes to stay organised!


Simply put it on the dressing table for a high end vanity look in her bedroom!
